What is Tajweed?
In the context of the recitation of the Quran, tajwid (in Arabic: تَجْوِيدْ) is a set of rules for the correct pronunciation of the Quranic letters with all their qualities and applying the various traditional methods of recitation (Qira’at).
In Arabic, the term tajweed is derived from the triliteral root ج-و-د j-w-d, meaning enhancement or to make something excellent. Technically, it means giving every letter its right in reciting the Qur’an.

- Those who recite the Quran with Tajweed will be in the company of the noble obedient angels in the hereafter. In this regard, the prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “The one who is proficient with the Qur’an will be with the noble and righteous scribes (the angels), and the one who reads it and stumbles over it, finding it difficult, will have two rewards.” [Book 33, Hadith 124]
- Islam gives great importance to Quran learning, it puts those who learn Quran in a higher-rank and status above other people. In this regard, the prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “The best among you (Muslims) are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it.” [Sahih al-Bukhari 5027]

- One of the most important benefits of learning Tajweed Quran and recite it regularly is that the Quran comes as an intercessor for us on the day of judgment. In this regard, the prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “Read the Qur’an, for it will come as an intercessor for its reciters on the Day of Resurrection.” [Sahih Muslim | Riyad as-Salihin 991]
